What's to Like?
Great taste! Aged a year.
WSU 19 (Shhh! It's the secret recipe!)
Philanthropy -- 1% of sales goes to a foundation dedicated to educating the public about healthy food production.

What's not to Like?
Fairly expensive
Around $18 for 30 ounces in 2006.
Not for the squeamish!
It’s sort of icky watery when you open the can. Eeeuuuwww!
Not available year round.
Sells out quickly during the holiday season.

Fun Fact: This is the only food item known to have mysteriously disappeared from my refrigerator in the dead of the night. My now-teenage daughter has admitted that she used to wait until I went to bed so she could sneak some Cougar Gold out of the refrigerator to snack on in bed!

Gooooooo Cougars!

Hey, I’m not above cheering for a team from the school that makes some of the best cheese known to mankind! I’m talking Cougar Gold!

I love cheese, as is evidenced by the fact that this is not the only cheese review on this site! Cheese is heavenly. Cheese is divine. Cheese is as good as any dessert, and actually can be served as dessert! I love cheese.

I’ve only had Cougar Gold twice in my life because it’s a bit hard to come by. They don’t ship it in the summer months because it’s just too hot, and once the holidays come it moves like mad! They make about 200,000 cans per year (I think...!) of which approximately 120,000 sell between Halloween and Christmas. Going, going, gone. Get it while you can.

I’ve never tried the other flavors of cheese made at WSU, nor have I actually placed an order myself. I have, however, had them shipped to me as gifts. They arrived in time for my birthday and the Christmas holidays.

If I haven’t convinced you, here’s a great article.

Uh-huh. Right. What's the catch?
No catch really, just really good cheese that costs a lot and is worth it! OK OK! I admit it! There is a catch! My friends Karyn and Craig in Spokane have given me this cheese as a gift a couple of different times. They’re Cougar fans. They got me hooked.

There! I said it! But that hardly counts as bias because if I really didn’t like this cheese, I wouldn’t let Karyn and Craig spend the money on repeat tins. :-) And besides, I don’t follow college football so I have no real WSU allegiance. I just love them for their cheese!

Hey Karyn! Hey Craig! I hope you buy some for yourself this year before it's all sold out! Too bad about last year...! :-)

Items I’ve bought:
The only variety of cheese I’ve had is the Cougar Gold, though I wouldn’t hesitate to order any of the cheeses on offer. They come sealed in a large tin can and they're great for gift giving.
